What this means for your monitoring systems

Microsoft will officially end standard extended support for Windows Server 2012 / 2012 R2 in October 2026, followed by Windows Server 2016 in January 2027. After these dates, routine security updates, bug fixes, or technical assistance will cease.

Legacy platforms face security and compliance risks, though systems remain operational.

How to stay supported

  • Upgrade the Operating System to a supported Windows Server version.
  • Evaluate your existing server infrastructure against modern Windows Server requirements to determine if upgrades are possible or if new hardware is required.
  • Use Extended Security Updates (ESU) via Microsoft where possible as a temporary bridge.
