Verification and Validation Engineer

ASL/Pharmagraph is looking for a Verification and Validation Engineer to join our well-established engineering company.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing validation and verification strategies and test plans, ensuring that the strategies are implemented by executing tests or arranging for tests to be undertaken at an external site, gathering data and reporting on the test results to internal and external customers.


The ideal candidate will be professional, highly organised and able to work under pressure. Working alongside the Quality, H/W and S/W Development teams, this is a key role within ASL/Pharmagraph and is based at our head office in Finchampstead. The company’s products are used in environmental monitoring systems for pharmaceutical, NHS and life sciences customers, as well as for general engineering and military applications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing validation and verification strategies and test plans, ensuring that the strategies are implemented by executing tests or arranging for tests to be undertaken at an external site, gathering data and reporting on the test results to internal and external customers.

This role would suit a highly motivated engineer with a background in the development of tests and validation of new products. Software will include MATLAB and Visual Studio amongst others, with training provided where required. You will identify and implement any equipment needed to perform testing or improve facilities; ensuring accuracy, repeatability and industry standards are always met. This may include input towards design, creation of device specifications and innovative test methodologies.

Ideally you will hold a degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or another related discipline.


Roles & Responsibilities

Role includes, but is not limited to, the following activities relating to the company’s hardware and software products: -

  • Develop and execute test strategy, regimes and plans alongside our design engineers, utilising new and standard test methods to satisfy project requirements.
  • Instruction and supervision of Test Technicians during test setup and operation.

  • Execution of testing protocols and factory acceptance tests on company manufactured hardware modules and bought in products to prove functionality, performance and durability.

  • Execution of testing protocols and factory acceptance tests on company manufactured software and bought in products to prove functionality, performance and durability.
  • Utilise both internal and external facilities, liaising with external test houses for delivery of tests, including reporting and maintaining agreed schedules where appropriate.
  • Carry out additional testing activities during product lifecycle.

  • Review and sign-off test installations championing best practices & safety.
  • Carry out data analysis and draw conclusions from test data to produce engineering test reports.

  • Support HSE requirements for functional test areas, develop SWI’s and support Risk Assessments.

  • Identify areas of opportunities for improvement in functional test areas.
  • Ensure maintenance and calibration activities are carried out in line with project, departmental and company requirements.

  • Participate in activities to address organisational initiatives and engineering issues.

  • Duties will be carried out at ASL/Pharmagraph offices in Finchampstead, Berkshire.

Skills

The following skills are desirable for the role:

  • Ability to use MATLAB tools to perform data analysis and ability to create custom analysis scripts.

  • Experience in the use of laboratory equipment (such as Oscilloscopes) to set up and carry out tests.

  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Drawing packages such as TurboCAD, Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Excel, Word, Access & Outlook).

  • Knowledge of Real Time Operating Systems such as MQX RTOS.

  • Knowledge of standards such as GAMP, IEC 61508, DO-178B/C

  • Understanding and use of concepts such as Continuous Integration (Jenkins) and Test-Driven Development.

  • Ability to take on a hands-on approach in test setup and instrumentation/data acquisition.

  • Strong analytical and judgment skills including the ability to troubleshoot and advise on testing solutions.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge, reasoning, and problem-solving skills in engineering.

  • A flexible approach to work, with the desire to thrive in a dynamic and fast-moving environment with an ability to respond quickly to changes in project priorities.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage own time and priorities.

  • Professional manner when dealing with both internal and external customers.

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams within the organisation.

Education / Experience

Must have 2+ years’ experience in a test or validation role.

Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and experience.

Due to the nature of this position only British Citizens can be considered (dual nationals with British citizenships will be considered). Candidates must have been resident in the UK for at least seven out of the last 10 years and meet other vetting requirements.


Benefits

  • Salary in the range of £35,000 - £50,000 dependent on experience.

Full time hours are 9:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday.
